Sanford & Irene Burnstein Family Foundation

Funding Eligibility, Proposal, & Reporting Guidelines

  • Only organizations whose policies and actions encourage diversity and inclusion and are nondiscriminatory in the community served, hiring of staff, and recruitment of volunteers are given consideration for funding. The Sanford & Irene Burnstein Family Foundation supports organizations that are inclusive, irrespective of race, color, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, sex (including pregnancy), disability, age, or veteran status. 
  • The Foundation only awards grants to organizations that do not discriminate in their hiring, volunteer recruitment, or clients/communities they serve. 
  • Funding is provided only to organizations exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation does not provide grants to individuals.
  • Organizations that demonstrate community partnerships are more actively supported.
  • Political organizations or parties, candidates for political office, and organizations whose primary purpose is to influence legislation are not supported.
  • Event sponsorships are supported on a very limited basis. The Foundation directs the majority of its giving directly to general operating, direct services, and capital projects.
  • The Foundation contributes primarily to Tulsa, OK and Tulsa-area programs. If your organization is outside the Tulsa Metro area, please contact the Foundation team at the email or number below.

Current Partnering Organization Deadlines & Funding Details

April 15th

Spring Review Cycle

For current partnering organizations who received funding in the previous spring cycle, please submit all requested documentation for reporting and renewal requests on or before April 15th


September 15th

Fall Review Cycle

For current partnering organizations who received funding in the previous fall cycle, please submit all requested documentation for reporting and renewal requests on or before September 15th

Renewal Requests & Reporting For Current Partnering Organizations: Operating, Capital, & Sponsorship


For OPERATING RENEWAL REQUESTS: 


1. Amount requested


2. How will funds assist in fulfilling the organization's mission


3. How are outcomes measured? What data is tracked and how is that measured towards ouctomes? 


4. Please provide an updated list of operating partnering agencies and status (Active MOU, Engaged, In Discussion, or Not Yet Contacted, etc)


For CAPITAL CAMPAIGN Requests:


1. Please contact the Program Director for further information.

For GENERAL OPERATING Reporting:


1. Please include organization's most recent impact or annual report.  If organization does not have an annual report, please describe outcomes over the last funding cycle, are any operational or programmatic adjustments being made based on outcomes? How do those outcomes help the organization or program move its mission forward into the next few years? 


2. Please describe any pertinent changes to the following areas (if relevant):

  • Personnel (key staff hires/reductions, organizational culture, staff morale, etc.)
  • Financial health and fundraising
  • Strategic planning and governance updates
  • Anti-discrimination policy or statement of inclusion


3. Please include the organization's itemized overall operating budget and most recent audit (if the organization does not have an audit, please add a note of this in the request)


For CAPITAL Reporting: 


1. Please provide above general reporting for overall operations


2. Please provide updated capital project financials, major milestone updates, any delays or changes in budget and final project outcome, or any changes to the overall project. 


For SPONSORSHIP Reporting: 


1. Reporting requested by the fall reporting deadline of September 15th


2. Please provide overall confirmed budget with itemized expenditure and gross revenue


3. If tracked & applicable, please provide staff and volunteer hours towards event. 


4. Please provide any additional relevant details of overall outcomes of event.

Recipients of Burnstein Family Foundation funding may use grant funds only for the purpose stated in the grant application. Funded entities are expected to report their progress prior to seeking further funding.
